ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture treatments stimulate the body’s innate healing mechanisms, reduces the effects of cortisol and re-trains your brain around how the body holds tension. Acupuncture needles stimulate the flow of Qi (Chee) in the body to clear stagnation, relieve stress, and promote homeostasis. They prompt the body to release its natural pain relievers and improve blood flow. We know they communicate with the brain in ways that we have observed through fMRI but are still working to understand. Acupuncture needles are generally retained for 20-45 minutes, depending on your condition. New patient sessions last about 90 minutes, while returning patient acupuncture visits typically last about one hour.
HERBAL MEDICINE
Chinese Herbal Medicine is a strong, safe, and effective form of natural medicine. At Six Branches Family Acupuncture we demand the highest quality herbs for our patients and have full confidence in the quality standards of our herb suppliers. We have some herbs in raw or pill form, but we most often work with tinctures. We find that our patients love how easy tinctures are to take and we love that we can customize our formulas to address your exact pattern. We source most of our tinctures through KW Botanicals in San Anselmo CA.
Herbs are prescribed to address individual imbalances and should always be taken under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Herbs should be taken as prescribed and any new medications should be mentioned to the practitioner immediately.
ACUPRESSURE, Cranial/Sacral, TUI NA
Depending on the individual needs of the patient, we may use Acupressure, Cranial/Sacral or Tui Na to complement Acupuncture sessions. Tui Na is a vigorous form of Chinese orthopedic massage performed with the patient fully clothed. These services are used as needed during an acupuncture session and are not currently stand-alone offerings.
CUPPING AND GUA SHA
Cupping and Gua Sha are both therapies that promote blood circulation within muscles. Both Cupping and Gua Sha can also be used at the onset of a cold. Cupping is often used to treat sore or tight muscles, relax the nervous system, or address headaches, digestive, gynecological or respiratory issues. Some bruising is possible with both modalities.
These services are used as needed during an acupuncture session and are not currently stand-alone offerings.
Dietary & Lifestyle COUNSELING
Dietary and lifestyle counseling are incorporated into your care as needed for your condition. After assessing your condition and diagnosis we may suggest foods that you can add or limit to help change that condition and improve your health, or we may offer suggestions around sleep and work hygiene. In our dietary suggestions, we draw primarily from Traditional Chinese Medicine’s approach to food but are also flexible in working to address your needs. We will never tell you to lose weight, we only offer dietary advice to support your body’s healing process. If you do not wish to discuss dietary changes, you will have the opportunity to inform us of that when you become a patient.
